On September 1st 2010, dr. Jan Verschuuren was appointed as extraordinary professor of Neurology, in particular neuromuscular disorders at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). This chair has been established for a period of five years and is funded by the Prinses Beatrix Fonds.
The research of prof. Verschuuren focuses on Duchenne muscular dystrophy and Myasthenia. The group has several research lines including immunological, MRI and therapy based research and participates in international collaborations.
The goal of the Prinses Beatrix Fonds is to contribute to the treatment of neuromuscular diseases and movement disorders and to improve the quality of life for patients with a muscular disease or movement disorder. The fund financially supports scientific research and with the establishment of endowed chairs the fund stimulates scientific research on specific topics within university medical centers.
